Brief 4 - FEMale Range
The challenge is to design a beautiful, different and commercial new female range aimed at customers between the ages of 12 and 90.
Carefully consider the target customer and research what already exists within the market - whether it’s fashion, homeware or greetings. We’d like to see lots of lovely new commercial styles that are different to what we already have within M&S/Hallmark.
Be brave and creative with technique – try using scanned textures, fabrics, mark making, character design or collage to explore new looks. The range should encompass different styles of illustration, pattern, photography, printmaking and typography.
Think about which trends, icons and subject matters are relevant to your customer, and consider whether the style should be contemporary, traditional or more fun. Think about the sender, the recipient and the message or emotion the design needs to convey.
Consider layout and composition and think about how editorial will work with the design or whether typography will be the main focus. Think carefully about colour palettes and combinations and look at emerging trends, but remember the colours should still appeal to the target customer.
