Gifted? Competition Brief

Welcome to the first Gifted? brief for 2016.

We will be hosting 6 in total throughout the year, including our annual collaborative competition with New Designers - a 'Design-a-Day'.

We will update you accordingly within our News section with all the info you'll need to take part.

So, without further ado...
 

Brief 1 - KIDS CHARACTERS

The challenge is to design fun, commercial characters for a new kids’ range for ages 1-16. This is a wide range so carefully consider your customer, what message you want your character to give and what the emotional connection between the sender and the recipient is.

We would like to see all kinds of characters such as people, animals, objects; it’s a great opportunity to use your imagination. Think about trends and what could be the next popular animal e.g. meerkat, fox, owl, pug, or a llama?

Be brave and use a variety of techniques such as pen & ink, watercolour, collage, photography and new illustrative, graphic, and 3D styles. You may want to add value to your characters with finishes, scanned textured papers, photographed add-ons.

Also consider interesting compositions, scenarios that tell a story, editorial that works with the layout and new beautiful and fun colour combinations.

Research the customer you are targeting and also visit stores to see what is already out there. We need your range to be commercial, on trend, different to what we have already and in your style.
